VPC-HDC Hardware Diagnostics is an advanced 16-bit diagnostics board that allows service technicians, system integrators and developers, and even end-users to quickly trouble shoot and isolate component-level failures in IBM and compatible microcomputers equipped with a 286,386,486, or Pentilum processor.
The board’s hardware and software are designied to use a minimum amount of system functions, thus allowing VPC-HDC to start and test computers even if virtually all system components are main data bus must be functioning for the board to initialize and conduct its diagnostics.
VPC-HDC includes an extensive set of diagnostic tests which check all aspects of core system board components and functions, including:- DMA Page Register test
- DMA Controller Channels test
- Keyboard Controller and Keyboard test
- Interrupt Controller Channels tests
- CMOS Memory and Real Time Clock test
- System Timers test
- Port B and System Bus Signals test
- System Memory test
- DAM Transfer test
- Color Video Adapter test
- System BIOS test
Includes special chipset initialization options which can be used to initialize systems
specifications on power-up.
VPC-HDC offers 3 mode for Trouble shooting the system:- Burn-in Mode
- Trouble shooting Mode
- Post Mode
VPC-HDC component level diagnostic can be used for burn-in testing on new or required systems. When a system appears dead or is only partially initializing (is not completing its post routine) cannot rely on the system BIOS to initialize the system. To use the TROUBLE SHOOTING Mode in such case we must replace the BIOS chip with BIOS ROM supplied in the VPC-HDC Kit. In addition to component-level diagnostics, VPC-HDC also includes a Power On Self Test (POST) mode. This mode allows you to monitor the POST error codes output by the system BIOS during power-up and system initialization.
The POST mode compliments VPC-HDC is powerful component-level diagnostics by allowing you to utilize a system's own internal Power On Self Test routine to quickly verify whether or not a system is initializing properly, and it can sometimes help you more quickly isolate component-level failures. If video is not available for the reason, or the computer's video subsystem is malfunctioning, routine by watching the code in the Seven segment display and reult (pass/fail) are red and green indicators which provide pass (green) and fail (red) indication when the Diagnostics mode is being used.
